Medical centers, daycares, and schools all perform essential community services, but many in the Philippines find it hard to keep up with building maintenance. Volunteers are considered necessary for the value they create in helping to beautify and maintain these spaces so they’re attractive and functional for community members.

As a Construction and Renovation volunteer, I helped with light building tasks around Palawan, assisting with renovations, painting, restoration, carpentry, and landscaping. Our primary mission was to improve several places at the Tigman Elementary School - from reinforcing the concrete path around the school (due to rainy season weather conditions) to constructing a wooden and bamboo hut to shade the pitch near the kindergarten.
